If you read through this website, you will notice that I almost never use the term “Bigfoot” to refer to sasquatches.
I hate the term “Bigfoot” to the point of loathing.
“Bigfoot” was sensationalized when I was a kid in the 1970s. It brings to mind a lone, hairy, large-footed cartoon character. It is a personal name for a comical figure; not the common name of a species.
If you haven’t guessed yet, I prefer the term “Sasquatch” when referring to these creatures. First, it reminds us that people have been seeing them since before Europeans set foot on this continent.
Second, it is becoming as well known as “Bigfoot” in America, so hopefully people will identify with it.
Finally, it feels more respectful to our quarry. How would you like it if sasquatches called us “Tiny”?
