We Have Our Location!
SRA-Jim and SRA Member and friend Chris have been scouting new locations for us, and they found a great one within an hour drive of Duluth, MN. After reviewing several sites which all showed good promise, they chose one to stay at last Saturday night. During the night they recorded howls that started a pack of coyotes to howling. They also recorded and heard large, bi-pedal footsteps around their camp in the early hours of the morning.
Here are the howls that Jim recorded that night:
The lower pitched howler(s) at the beginning are unknown. You can clearly hear the higher pitched coyotes begin howling part way through the clip. We cannot rule out wolves as the source of the howls, but they are not what we typically hear from wolves in that area either. Given this audio, the stalking behavior at camp, and the other evidence they found, we feel strongly that this area will make for an excellent expedition.
Expeditions Now Free to All SRA Members
In a new policy change we announced a couple weeks ago, this and all of our expeditions are now FREE for all SRA members. For more information on becoming an SRA member, click this link.
In addition to this, Jim will also be providing chili for dinner on Friday night, and we will be making What-cha-got beef stew for dinner on Saturday night. I’ll be providing the beef and ask all attendees to bring a vegetable item to add to the stew. It’ll be tasty; I can promise that.
