When we founded the SRA, we did so with the idea of forming a community where we could share knowledge and ideas about sasquatches and how to find and interact with them. Everything we have done with this organization has been to further these goals. One thing we did, however, despite our intentions, has severely impacted the trust and open exchange we desire: Expedition Fees.
Our intentions were to use the money from the expeditions to fund the purchase of equipment that our members could then use on our expeditions and in their own research. This we have done, purchasing several night vision cameras and audio recorders. We still have around $2,000 in the equipment fund which we are saving to purchase a recording thermal camera someday. We will keep this fund and grow it as time goes on through member dues, donations, and other sources in order to meet our equipment goals sometime n the future.
That said, we have never been comfortable with charging for our expeditions. Given the nature of the search for sasquatches and the profiteers who have flocked to this subject, charging for these expeditions has left our intentions open to question. In addition to that, the cost was prohibitive to many whom we want to have on our expeditions.
So I am glad to announce that for the remainder of 2015 and likely beyond, all expeditions will be free of charge and open to all members, researchers, and patrons. We are currently planning an expedition August 27-30 and another one some weekend in late September. SRA-Jim has been visiting 5 new sites we are looking at for the expedition. He’s found promising signs at three locations. This morning, he was screamed at while checking out one spot, so we are confident that we will have some great new sites to break into.
We hope you will join us.
